I don’t know if you know this about me, but I really love silly holidays. Do you know what else I love? Donuts. So clearly National Donut Day is a day I plan on celebrating. And I think you should, too!

NATIONAL DONUT DAY 2019

Did you know there is an actual reason why we celebrate National Donut Day? I definitely didn’t. I thought it was just a randomly chosen day to honor the sweet and delicious fried dough rings. But nope! There’s actually a pretty cool story behind this day.
In 1938, The Salvation Army in Chicago started National Donut Day as a fundraiser and a way to honor the “Donut Lassies”. The Donut Lassies were female volunteers who handed out fresh donuts to the US soldiers during World War 1. You can read more about them here.
We continue to celebrate National Donut Day in the United States every year on the first Friday in June to honor the brave soldiers as well as the women who provided them with these sweet treats.
WHERE YOU CAN CELEBRATE DONUT DAY
Dunkin’ is giving a free donut with the purchase of any beverage.
My kids and I are super excited to be stopping by Dunkin today to celebrate! I hope you are able to make time to celebrate this fun day, too! And tell me, what is your favorite kind of donut?

Oh wow! I love donuts! I don’t think we celebrate the wonder of the Circle of Tummon was enough!
If I didn’t know for a fact that the local Krispy Kreme stand will be cleared out by now I’d be running to get some to join in, for solidarity only of course!
