Make Valentine’s Day Special for Kids

If you have been around the blog for a bit, or you know me in real life, you know that I am a big fan of holidays. I like fun holiday decor. I like buying little holiday gifts. And I like involving my kids in the fun. And Valentine’s Day is no exception.

Today I am sharing a super-easy way to make Valentine’s Day special for kids. I know we’re all super busy and throwing in something extra on top of your already hectic life can seem overwhelming. But this is so, so simple. And you probably already have everything you need. Annnnd it really does make your kids feel special. I promise you, it is totally worth the extra 20-30 minutes it’ll take to make this.

This really is one of the easiest ways to show a little extra love to your kids on Valentine’s Day. And it also doubles as festive decor!

Double win.

To make Valentine’s Day special for kids:

Grab some cut-out heart cardstock, sharpies, & washi tape. Write 14 different reasons why you love your child on the hearts, one reason for each heart.

Tip: I write all the notes at one time so that I don’t forget before going to bed.

Each morning leading up to Valentine’s Day tape one of those hearts to their door. Your kiddo will be so excited to see a new heart every morning!

If you don’t want to tape the hearts directly on the door, use mini clothespins to attach them to a pretty ribbon instead.

I really love doing this for my kids each year. Raising kids is hard, guys. And day-to-day life can sometimes feel like I’m barely hanging on and just doing whatever it takes to survive another day. Doing this for my boys (and Audrey, too, this year) reminds me of what I love about my kids. And how special they are. It may sound silly and crazy to need a reminder…but sometimes I do. Taking time to write down all the special things about each individual child makes me appreciate each kiddo for who they are. This activity gets me out of the “ugh! The backtalk!!” or “just listen to MEEE!!” frustration and allows me to focus on how special they each are.

I really hope you’ll give this a try for Valentine’s Day this year. It is so simple and I know it will mean a lot to your child.
