Our Very Hungry Caterpillar

I had so much fun planning Noah’s first birthday party! (I even had his theme in mind before he was born!) About 5 months before his party I started getting ideas from Pinterest and about 2 months before the party I started making some of the decorations.

One main part of the party I knew I was going to splurge on was hiring a professional photographer. Pictures are really important to me and until I learn how to take pictures with a fancy camera, I’ll continue to hire a photographer. So, I was so excited when I found out our favorite photographer, Kristin Hayward of kbh photography, was available for the party! Seriously, if you’re local…check her out! She is an amazing photographer and the sweetest woman to work with. She’s patient, great at getting the kids to laugh, and has a fast turn around time.

At the last minute we decided to host the party at the park directly behind our house. It was such a gorgeous day and we really wanted to be able to enjoy the sun. It worked out perfectly at the park and we didn’t have to worry about cleaning up our house afterward! We had tables & chairs and a bounce house delivered and then got busy setting up! A lot of the decor ideas (ok, all of the decor ideas) came from pinterest! How did anyone ever plan an event, cook dinner, work out, or clean their homes before Pinterest?!

For the goodie bags I just used white lunch bags, attached these super cute cut-outs I found on Etsy, and filled them with bubbles, crackers, gummy bears, and a ring pop! Noah (66)

I ordered cupcakes from Safeway and used more cut-outs from Etsy to personalize them.

Our friend Brittany made Noah his smash cake. She is super talented and should really consider making cakes for a living!Noah (76)

From Printstagram I ordered a ton of photos from my Instagram account. If you haven’t checked out this site, you need to! The quality of the photos was really impressive. I attached these to string using tiny clothes pins.  It was a really neat way to display a lot of photos of Noah’s first year!

I made a couple of these little centerpieces for the tables. A couple had an “N” and a couple had the number 1. I thought it was a simple way to tie in the Hungry Caterpillar theme (using the fruit the caterpillar ate) without being too obnoxious. Noah (94)

This is another idea I found on Pinterest. Each green circle has a photo of Noah from his first 12 months of life! It turned out really, really cute & was cool to see how much he has grown! Noah (143)

We used a copy of The Hungry Caterpillar as a guest book. Noah (8)

And then he got naked the eat his cake! Cuz, ya know…that’s the only way to eat cake 🙂

Kristin was so sweet and made sure to get some special family photos for us.
