How to Organize and Store Your Makeup

Getting my entire house organized is taking a little bit longer than I had planned. With three kids and a husband, life is busy! But I am continuing my “no room in my house is safe” organization and purge project (shared some other organization posts here) and today I am walking you through how to organize and store your makeup.

The Container Store obviously has the best storage containers/organization solutions that money can buy! I am a big, big fan of this store! You will find something for absolutely every area of your home you plan to organize at The Container Store. Amazon has some really good storage options as well.

How to organize your makeup:

The first thing I did when organizing my makeup was gathered all my makeup into one place. I had my everyday makeup in acrylic drawers on my bathroom counter. My “fancier”, less frequently used makeup was in a bin under my sink. And I had lip gloss in just about every purse or bag I own. So, I gathered everything and put it all in a large basket.

Then, I went through every piece of makeup and decided if I still use it or if it needs to be thrown away. I had a ton of mascara samples that I never used so those quickly went in the trash. I also had a few tubes of primer that were pretty much empty so I tossed those as well. There were a couple of other products that I had that I never used so I tossed those, too. I don’t wear a ton of different makeup so I was able to condense the “keep” pile into a much smaller basket.

After I decided what to keep, I organized each product by where it goes on my face. So, all of the lip products (lipsticks, liners, and glosses) went into one pile. My current favorite foundation and concealer were grouped into a pile. Bronzer, blush, and highlighter into one pile. And finally eye shadow palettes.

I couldn’t believe how dirty I let my drawers get so I quickly wiped them clean with a wet paper towel. I also wiped down any of my dirty/dusty makeup products because I am weird like that, I guess.

Lastly, I put all the makeup in the drawers organized by the piles I put everything in. So, the top drawer has all of my lip products. The second drawer has foundation, concealer, and two setting powders. In the third drawer, I have blush, bronzer and a highlight palette. The last drawer has the only two eyeshadow palettes I kept. The top of the drawers has a spot for my brushes, primer, makeup setting spray, the lip products I wear every day, and my mascara.

HOW TO STORE YOUR MAKEUP:

My favorite way to store my makeup is with these acrylic drawers on my bathroom vanity. These drawers are super sturdy and keep my makeup organized. I like that they are pretty and look nice sitting out on the bathroom counter. They are the perfect size, too.  All of my makeup products are neatly organized in a spot that I can easily find exactly what I need in the morning.

These acrylic drawers are a little bigger than the drawers I have if you need a bigger system.
