Easy and Fun Bookmark Craft for Kids
I have had this bookmark craft for kids idea in my head for a couple of years now. I don’t know what took me so long, but I finally bought a Scotch thermal laminator. Do you have one of these? It is awesome! You can professionally laminate important documents, photos, kid’s artwork, anything…in less than 5 minutes from the comfort of your own home. Simply plug in the laminator, place your document in a laminating pouch, and then gently feed it through the machine. After just a few seconds, your document is sealed and protected and so sturdy! So stinking cool!!
So, after laminating just about everything in my house, I decided we should finally use the laminator for what I actually bought it for. When I told the boys what we were doing, they were most excited to be able to use the cool machine that Mommy had been spending so much time with the past few days. Ha!
SUPPLIES:
In addition to the laminator and pouches, I bought thick cardstock, a bunch of stickers of things the boys are interested in, alphabet stickers, and a couple of spools of ribbon.
First, we each decorated our own bookmarks. The boy’s bookmarks turned out so “them“. Connor used the alphabet stickers to spell out Star Wars and added 4th-grade school stickers and shark stickers. Noah spelled out his name and used monster stickers.
When we were done decorating the bookmarks, we set them inside of a laminating pouch. You’ll want to make sure there is enough space between each bookmark to allow for room for cutting AFTER you laminate. You also want a bit of room at the top of each bookmark so that you can punch a hole for the ribbon tassel.
Then, gently guide the pouch through the machine. You don’t need need to push it at all, just kind of hold it in place to make sure it rolls through the laminator evenly.
When the laminating is finished you can cut out your bookmarks, leaving some of the edges to keep your lamination intact. Use a hole puncher to punch a hole at the top of the bookmark. Use the fabric ribbon to make a fun tassel to tie through the hole.
My boys really enjoyed this activity. They thought it was so cool to be able to personalize their own bookmarks with the stickers they like. It would also be really fun to let your kids draw on the bookmarks. Or instead of stickers, go through old magazines and have your kids cut out pictures and letters/words and glue them to the bookmark cardstock before laminating.
I think the next time we do this I will print out photos to glue to the bookmarks.
With the extra time off of school for the holidays coming up, I think this would be a fun activity to do with your kids. Also, this bookmark craft for kids would also be a really sweet gift for your kids to make for their grandparents or aunts and uncles.
The Scotch thermal laminator is so easy to use and has so many uses in your home. Definitely grab one for your home and have so much fun laminating everything in sight! 🙂
