Defeated

I wish I could say the last couple days have been better since my last post, but that’s just not the case.

I am feeling extremely defeated.

Sad.

Exhausted.

Angry.

We had an appointment today with Connor’s developmental pediatrician at The Melmed Center. I was able to tell her about his increased anger & aggression and how the meltdowns are occurring much more frequently. It was another tearful appointment for me because not only am I frustrated and feeling very defeated, I am constantly worrying about our future if we don’t get this under control now. One good thing the doctor was able to tell me is that children who have this type of behavior at home AND at school are more at risk for disruptive disorders (ADHD, ODD) in the future. But because Connor behaves so well at school and normally only has difficult behavior for Abe & I, she believes that with all of our hard work and early intervention Connor will be able to outgrow this.

We will be seeing a psychologist at The Melmed Center next tuesday and the following tuesday for an initial evaluation and decide what the next best step is for Connor. The doctor had suggested play therapy for Connor and parent coaching for Abe and I. I am anxious to get these things started because I know Connor (well, all of us actually!) will really benefit from these services.

hang in there renae. sorry things havent been going so well. i think its great that you guys are taking so many healthful interventions this early in his life. i think the parenting coaching thing might be good too. though you and abe are great parents sometimes there might be little things that an expert can point out that can make a big difference. let me know how things go.
