A Letter to My Son on the Night Before First Grade

Connor,

I know you are feeling very nervous for the first day of school tomorrow. Mommy is, too. I know you are unsure of what to expect as the first time as a full day student. Mommy is, too.

I hope you know how brave you are. You are so kind and you have so many friends who are excited to see you after the long summer break. This first day back to school may be scary but I know, I know you can do it!

I hope you know I will miss you so much during the day. I’ll be thinking about you every second and wondering what you are up to. I’ll be counting down the minutes until you are back home.

I promise to be there as soon as school lets out in the afternoon. I’ll be waiting for the biggest hug from you and I cannot wait to hear all about your first day as a First grader!

Please remember to be kind to everyone. Remember to use listening ears and show respect to your teachers and peers. Use your manners and don’t forget to wash your hands! 😉

Also, don’t forget to have fun! School is important but it is fun, too! Enjoy your time with your classmates. Meet new friends.

Tonight I pray that you feel strong and confident as you step onto campus tomorrow. I pray that you will be safe and surrounded by tons of friends and loving teachers. I pray that you’ll have the endurance to last you a full day. I pray for your health- may this year be filled with lots more fun and a lot less headaches. I pray for your classmates- asking God to bless these sweet children and fill their hearts with love and kindness for everyone. I pray for your teachers- may they be filled with all the energy they need (and then some!) to teach and love each and every one of their students and may they be filled with compassion and understanding for their students who need just a little bit more help. I pray for all the other parents who are sending their children off to school tomorrow.

You are ready, son! I know you are.

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together…

there is something you must always remember.

You are braver than you believe,

stronger than you seem,

and smarter than you think.

But the most important thing is,

even if we’re apart…

I’ll always be with you.”
