Happy Fourth of July!
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th weekend with their family and friends. I realize this post is super late but it’s too good to leave out!
The Fourth of July is probably my second most favorite holiday. I love the red, white and blue celebration and I always get teary eyed when I think about what this day means.
This year we went up north to my aunt and uncles cabin in Munds Park. The weather was gorgeous (high 70’s during the day and low 50’s at night) and the company was perfect! I love doing things with my family that I enjoyed so much when I was growing up. It’s even more fun now to bring my boys to the cabin and watch them make memories with their cousins- just like I did however many years ago 😉
We got to the cabin just before lunch on Saturday. It didn’t take long before we cracked open a beer and got to work on a puzzle. The kids went hunting for pinecones with Aunt Colleen (my aunt- so their great aunt. How cool is that?!) and then painted them. I took a couple breaks from the puzzle to lounge in the hammock with my sweet boys. Seriously, the weather was so gorgeous!! I could have spent the entire day in the hammock!
Sunday morning the guys took off early to play golf. The girls and the little kids slept in and snuggled a bit before heading over to the country club to swim.
We came home from the country club after lunch and some cocktails to take a quick nap. Not all the kids nap so they enjoyed some screen time together instead.
That evening the guys set up the tarp for Movie on the Deck night. Air mattress + blankets + lots of snacks = happy kiddos!
Since the kids were entertained the adults spent some time together playing poker. I passed on the poker and ended up going to bed a bit early. Noah was all about snuggling with me that night. But, he would not put down his American flag! He insisted on sleeping with it and anytime I tried to take it away he tightened his grip. Whatev, kid. just go to sleep! 😉
Monday = Parade Day! The little town in Munds Park has a super fun parade on the 4th. We decorate a float each year and participate. It’s so, so, so fun! Silly and fun. We all put on our red, white and blue gear- including silly hats & glasses, hop on our float and drive down to our spot in line.
We get down a few minutes before the parade actually starts so we have time to snap some fun photos!
I love this Father-Daughter photo! Too cute!
The parade was a blast. I caught myself getting choked up when I thought about all the people celebrating this day together. It is a really special sight to see and makes me so proud. I love spending this day with my family and I hope my boys always look forward to it like I do!
After the parade we came back to the cabin for a quick Flag Hunt game! The adults hid mini flags around the property and the kids got to hunt for them. This was my boys first time participating and they loved every second of it!
We got on the road and headed home shortly after the flag hunt. It was a wonderful weekend and we all had a blast.
A big thank you to Aunt Colleen and Uncle Mike for hosting us all. Thanks to Aimee and Eric for organizing all the meal planning. Karl and Sandy for sharing their sweet girl with us and the amazing pasole. Thanks to Angela for hanging with the kiddos! And thanks to my brother and sister for the fun memories we created!
I’m already counting down the days until next year…
